The “Green Machine” Swings into action.

The Sixes under their new Manager, Oliver Jeremiah Bernadino Green, have already made an impression on the local press and after two away games in West London they are at Corkscrew Hill this Saturday where they entertain Polytechnic.
The scribblers are bound to be out in force to see if Oli can maintain the meteoric impetus that his sporting career has had to date.
At his University in Detroit he played for the Detroit Dodgers basketball team as goal shooter and finished his first season without recording one single basket. The coach, Ivor Noclew, then moved Oli to goal defence where he failed to prevent the opposition scoring with every single shot. A proud record indeed. On returning to the UK with a degree in Hair Maintenance and Lacquering he joined Wasp RUFC and had a fairly unsuccessful time in the line out before being moved to the Refreshment Kiosk.
WWFC know that the Sixes are in good hands as Oli manages with a smile and has the ability to get people to play for him. Luckily for us his attempts to get Paul Kemp and Barry Russell involved in training have fallen on deaf ears.
So far two games and three points AND Oli has converted Tom Pardon into a midfielder – these new, imaginative moves will guarantee good crowds for the Sixes and this week Oli introduces three 17 years old into his squad. Watch this space.
The reports for the first two games appear below.

13/09/2014: Civil Service 7s (A)

Nightmare start! The closure of the Putney Bridge meant the manager, along with the kit, turned up to Civil at 14:55. The referee and opposition agreed to push the kick off back 15 minutes to allow us to get changed and get ourselves organized on the pitch.

Drama over the first half was even, Wickham were on top in terms of possession but, judged on chances created, the sides were even with a couple of great last ditch tackles by the Wickham centre halves running back towards their own goal. Half time the manager was reluctant to say too much as little was said pre-match and things weren’t going badly.

Wickham stuck with the 4-5-1 and continued to dominate however kept struggling with a little bit of quality with that final ball. That was until the 75th minute. A long cross field pass by Theo Aung was latched onto by Nico Galvan who finished in style with a half volley across his body into the side of the net. Wickham were not done with. Another long pass this time from Paul Farthing found Nico again who this time went near post to sent the boys into a celebration dance which Mylie Cirus would have been proud of.

A perfect start for Wickham 6s and for a nervy manager who kept his first clean sheet in a decade between the sticks.

Goalscorer: Nico Galvan (2)

20/09/2014: BB Eagles 5s (A)

Another long journey across to West London and the boys learnt their lesson from last week catching the train this time. What followed was unexpected. BB Eagles scored early after miscommunication led to the ball not being cleared first time putting the Bluebloods on the back foot.

The game then seemed even until the half hour mark when two quick goals from a pacey Eagles attack dealt us a huge blow. A golden chance was missed at a goal mouth scramble just before half time and Wickham went in 3-0 down.

Emphasis at half time was on attitude rather than an improvement in quality. The BB Eagles side was filled with players who looked more than useful at this level so Wickham had to make sure they let no one down by not fighting for every ball. Unfortunately a goalkeeping error led to a 4th and the 5th and 6th followed soon followed. So after 60minutes the boys were 6-0 down.

Matt King and Nick Whelan led the fight back verbally and physically and Jack Scanlon found the net twice with Theo Aung adding a further consolation goal.

Tom Pardon deserves a mention -- for the second game in succession he played on the right hand side of midfield and worked tirelessly in both directions. He played a big part in Scanlon’s second goal and some said he looked like a latter day Bobby Moore. The only difference was Bobby never wore a hairband (except on Sundays). The boys fought well and will be back for seconds.

Onwards and upwards, we know what to expect for the home game now! ________ is best served cold!

Goalscorers:Jack Scanlon (x2) and Theo Aung.
