Rosey & Simmo represent AFA against the Army

Chris & Ross played for the AFA Rep side against the Army last night at Corinthian Casuals ground nr Tolworth. On very good pitch both team played open expansive football. The AFA had the better of the first 20 minutes, however the Army took the lead when the AFA keeper called for a cross, didn’t make it and the Army striker nipped in to head home. From that point the Army started to boss the game. Then just before half time the Army took a 2 - 0 lead. A classic defensive error. The back four stopped and appealed for offside, the Army striker latched onto the through ball, rounded the keeper and slotted home.

At the start of the second half the Army were bossing the game. The AFA were struggling to put any moves together. With about 15 minutes left the Army appeared to take their foot off the peddle, the AFA started to come on strongly. The AFA pulled one back through Ewans (Nottsborough). The ball was bobbling around the six yard box, and the AFA strike got a good firm strike through a crowd of players to score.

Suddenly it was all AFA, wave after wave of attacking moves putting the Army under ever increasing pressure. Then with about 5 minutes left, a ball was swung in from the right, a defender helped it on towards the far post, where Ewans was unmarked and had a simple nod in for 2 – 2.

Even in the short time left the AFA had a couple of chances to snatch the game. In the end a draw was a fair result. The game had been played in a competitive but fair spirit, Pat Ryan the referee having very little to do.
