Wetherby Bulldogs

A fine win for the Under 9's despite the weather....

by

On a November morning that made you want to turn-over and go back to sleep, Wetherby played host to Fryston Warriors.

As strong winds blew the rain across the pitch, the two sides squared-up for a thrilling match. Fryston made the opening score with a fine try to the corner but Wetherby quickly replied with some great running by Max and Adam to be finished with a try by Jack.

Fryston defended well and came back with a second try before some determined running by Calum and Oliver set-up Luke for a spirited run to score in the near corner. The atrocious weather made the ball slippery and despite conceding another try Wetherby fought back with Ciaran, Oliver and Jack making valuable, ground allowing Jake to snake past the Fryston defence and score in the far corner.

Even with some great tackling from Dan and William, Fryston once again replied with a try, but before both teams were settled, Luke ran with all the flare of a young JPR Williams, with his golden locks flowing in the wind, to score his second try. Not be out done, Fryston once again found the Wetherby try line. With only minutes to spare, Oliver, Jack and Thomas gained space allowing Dan to make a tremendous run to clinch the winning try.

Man of the Match was awarded to Max with Dan taking top-tackler and newcomer Oliver M a well deserved Coach’s Award. Luke was awarded best player by Fryston Warriors.
