Wetherby travelled to Rodley Rockets after back to back wins against Kings Cross A and Guiseley. The Bulldogs had picked up some momentum and confidence, although they knew a much better performance was needed.
Rodley had come close to winning their first game of the season against Guiseley away. It was predicted that it wouldn’t be too long before they won their first game. With Wetherbys recent improvements, it might be a game too soon for the Rockets.

Wetherby had nineteen men to choose from. Some players will have been disappointed, but it was a headache the coach would rather have than to have one from a stringent squad.

Straight from the kick off Wetherby looked confident. Playing uphill in the first half didn’t deter them from putting in a good performance. Hard running and clinical tackling proved too much for the Rodley outfit. Gareth Hinchcliffe breaking the line numerous times too put through Jake Cross and Tom Tetlow for some excellent worked tries.

Rodley were trying everything , but they just couldn’t find a gap in the Wetherby defence. Hard hitters Jordan Picker and Luke Handley made sure of that. Gareth Hinchcliffe keeping the defence tight and putting in the higest tackle count of the game. Twenty six tackles to his name. Wetherby led comfortably at the break, but they needed to keep the tempo in the second half. That is what they did.

Elliot Thompson making some powerful runs in and some great running from Tom Mortimer. Helping carry Wetherby down the field. Wetherby added further tries with Jake Cross going over for another Mikey Hall, Tom Tetlow and Elliot Thompson. Gareth Hinchcliffe going over for one of his own to add to the tally.
In all fairness Rodley didn’t have a bad game. They were a much more improved side. They looked a much more organized outfit than the previous meeting between the two sides, but just couldn’t contain the Bulldogs in the end. The Score ended 38-4 to Wetherby.

Man of the match went to Gareth Hinchcliffe. He made the most tackles and broke through the Rodley defence numerous times. The playe maker set up a number of tries for the Bulldogs.

Second place awarded to Tom Tetlow. Always being in the right place at the right time. Creating more than a handful of problems for the Rodley defence. Adding to his already impressive try tally.

Third place was awarded to Jordan Picker. He played a solid game. Putting out some great hits on the Rodley outfit.

Wetherby will now face Harehills Pigeons for their next home fixture. The Pigeons another side introduced from the obsolete Yorkshire league. Wetherby will be looking to extend there three game unbeaten run. If they continue there form they have a good chance of doing so. Nothing can be taken for granted in this tight league.
