In a season populated with thrilling games and try-fests, Vandals treated the Brownacres faithful to a scoreless draw in a contest which at best can only be described as ‘dour’. In heavy conditions Vandals were acutely aware that the heavyweight Raynes Park pack would be licking their lips at the prospect of a gritty arm wrestle. Vandals were marmalised in the first scrum of the game and things were looking ominous, but credit to the Vandals pack who lifted the intensity and held their own for the remainder of the match. Both sides were dominant in defence and hazardous handling conditions meant that the tempo of the game was purely staccato, neither team able to hang onto possession long enough to create phases. Vandals were dominant for the finals 20 minutes of the game, camped in the Raynes Park 22, but a score was not to come. With 4 minutes left Mike O’Neill had a difficult shot at goal which just drifted wide but this was as close as either side was to breaking the deadlock.
Vandals move on to next week in hope of easier conditions underfoot and a few tries.
