WEYMOUTH maintained their 100 per cent home record this season with a hard- fought win over Havant in freezing conditions at Redlands. With inspirational striker Patrick May unavailable, the Seasiders were left wondering where the goals were going to come from in this fixture.

They were also missing Steven Membury and Roland Gill with Ben Skidmore and Roger Vanburgh stepping up from the seconds to fill the gaps.

Despite the reshuffle, the hosts started brightly, pinning Havant in their own half for long periods.

The relentless pressure meant there was no real attacking threat from the away side and when they did try and stage the odd counterattack, Matt Underhill and Michael Westlake were on hand to snuff out the danger.

Adam Drewitt also put in a strong performance on his debut at left-back while experienced forward Andy Stiles came closest to breaking the deadlock with two efforts that were saved from a couple of yards out.

The decisive goal eventually arrived 10 minutes before half-time when a clinical passing move led to Dan Bowles slipping the ball square to Luke Drewitt for the easiest of tap-ins.

The second period was a much scrappier affair with very few chances coming at either end.

However, it did witness the best move of the match when Weymouth sliced Havant open only to see Joe Foot’s deflected flick fly wide of the target.

The visitors also had a great chance to level following an uncharacteristic mistake by Underhill but Dan Dukes came to the rescue with a saving stick save that led to claims for a penalty, which the umpire waved away as the hosts held on.

Weymouth’s next assignment sees them travel to Winchester Thirds this afternoon.
