Weymouth Ladies II 0 – Wimborne Wayfarers II 2
Weymouth suffer unexpected loss
Weymouth 2’s took on Wimborne 2’s in the brilliant sunshine at Redlands. The play started at a frantic pace and Weymouth had the majority of the possession. Weymouth's midfield worked as a solid team as they got to grips with a new formation, with Annalise Dive distributing play down both the left and right channels. Several short corners were won in quick succession but the luck was against Weymouth on this occasion.
Wimborne were frequently quick to act leaving Weymouth barely enough time to set a defence around them and the ball. Wimborne also had strength in their midfield allowing them to make a break into Weymouth’s defensive half. Wimborne were awarded a short corner which they were unable to convert, thanks to Alice Furness chasing the ball down leaving no time for Wimborne to take a shot on goal.
Near the end of the first half Wimborne got a lucky break with a one on one battle with Weymouth's goalkeeper Lucy Barter, resulting in a goal, leaving Weymouth 1-0 down at the end of the first half.
Weymouth came out fighting in the second half making several textbook runs up the pitch. Shots on target were continuously made by Olivia Treadwell and Issie Gilliver, but were defended well by Wimborne's goalkeeper. Wimborne's second goal resulted from a short corner with an impressive aerial from a polished and well rehearsed short corner routine, ending the match as a 2-0 win to the visiting team.
