Weymouth Ladies II 10 – Swanage & Wareham III 0
Weymouth show no mercy winning 10-0 against Swanage & Wareham 3’s
Weymouth Ladies 2’s arrived on home ground feeling nervous but extremely determined to secure their place in winning the league. However, even with nerves on Weymouth's side, they managed to secure their first goal within the first 5 minutes when Anneka Bowles drove the ball at speed into the D dodging any Swanage & Wareham player in her path and passed a lovely square ball to Casey Foot who slapped the ball into the back of the net.
Swanage & Wareham were quick to react driving the ball into the defensive line that consisted of Jo Ray, Carolyn Schofield, Olivia Culbreth and Berni Cane. Cane won the ball off of the opposition and sent the ball to the sideline where Foot dribbled along the sideline then passed a square ball to Annalise Dive, who used some delightful stick skills around the Swanage & Wareham midfield then passed to Issie Gilliver. Gilliver picked out Bowles free at the top of the D who subsequently reversed stick slapped the ball beyond the outstretched goalie to make it 2-0 to Weymouth with 10 minutes gone on the clock.
Weymouth knew this match mattered the most to them because they had to win this match to secure their place of winning top of the league and securing their promotion for the next season which made Weymouth Ladies extremely determined to score more goals. 15 minutes into the first half Weymouth were able to win back the ball from Swanage & Wareham by a lovely tackle from midfielder Jemma Brunell who sent the ball to Luce Byrne who dribbled along the sideline and into the D where she passed to Bowles, who pushed the ball into the net for 3-0.
Swanage & Wareham tried to dribble through the midfield but were unsuccessful due to Dive intercepting the ball and sending the ball to Katie Nineham who drove along the sideline then sent it to Olivia Treadwell who was waiting at the top of the D. Treadwell cleanly struck the ball into the goal making the score 4-0 with 5 minutes left of the first half.
Weymouth soon extended their lead when Culbreth passed to Dive who passed to Gilliver who took a strike which rebounded off the goalie’s pads into the path of Brunell who was waiting at the penalty spot to push the ball into the net making the score 5-0 at half time.
In the second half Weymouth came back out strong and won a penalty corner in the first few minutes but were unable to score. Weymouth quickly reacted and stole the ball back off Swanage & Wareham with Bowles taking the ball into the D and making a lovely reverse stick slap into the back of the net for 6-0.
Weymouth were still extremely goal hungry and Gilliver won the ball and passed to Treadwell who was awaiting at the penalty spot where she placed the ball through the goalie’s legs making the score 7-0.
Swanage & Wareham best efforts to get into Weymouth D were stopped by Ray who cleared the ball to Byrne who sent the ball to Dive who dribbled the ball into the D who placed a nice little ball to Gilliver who picked out Byrne waiting at the post to slap the ball into the net to make it 8-0.
Weymouth won a flick, taken by Treadwell, but sadly the ball did not end in the back of the net. However this did not get Weymouth down as they soon were awarded another penalty flick which this time Treadwell converted successfully making the score 9-0.
Weymouth's coach decided to bring on Captain Claire Harding into the midfield. This led to Weymouth getting their tenth and last goal of the match with Harding waiting at the back post to slap the ball into the goal and then making a memorable sideline celebration!
