Weymouth Ladies 2s held to a draw
Goalless draw away to Gillingham
Weymouth were away to Gillingham for their 3rd game of the season. The travelling team set up well and began the game with real confidence and drive, penetrating the home sides defence in the first few minutes. Many shots on the goal, kept the home side busy but none of Weymouth’s attacks were finding the back of the goal. After a quick flurry of one sided play in Weymouth’s favour, the play soon opened, and it became an end to end game. Weymouth’s co-captain and Goalkeeper, Lucy Barter, had a very strong game. Making save after save to keep the score line 0-0.
With strong attacking play from Hannah Venner and Rosie Musk from both right and left wing, Weymouth continued to look dangerous. Forward Ellen Sandrey active in the D continuously making life difficult for the home defenders.
The midfield team of Gina Brown, Genevieve Crisford and Katy Stone worked tirelessly to distribute and carry the ball forward and out of danger. With some accurate passing and good pace, they linked well with the forward player to apply pressure on the goal. Solid defending from the Weymouth back four, Berni Cane, Jo Ray, Emily Acutt and Serita Shon, saw Gillingham kept at bay and frustrated as they struggled to get through. A penalty flick was eventually awarded to the home side after their efforts on goal. Despite this one on one situation for the Gillingham player, she hit the post and let Weymouth off once again.
All in all, it was a very solid and confident performance from Weymouth. Lots of attacking play and good defending from both sides means a point for each after their 0-0 draw.
