Hills regain second spot after hard-fought victory
Hills climbed back into second spot in North East One with four games to go with a 18-14 win over Old Brodleians and after Middlesbrough’s defeat.
No 8 Byron Elliott broke from the back of a scrum before sending supporting scrum-half Ian Barker over. Outside centre Guy Townsley added the extras and kicked a 25th minute penalty to make it 10-3.
Brods scored an unconverted try to make it 10-8.
Wheatley wing Tom Barker touched down in the corner in stoppage time only to have the ‘try’ disallowed for a forward pass.
The visitors opened up a 14-10 lead in the third quarter with a brace of penalties
Barker had a second touchdown disallowed for a forward pass after breaking clear on the half-way line.
Ian Barker restored Wheatley’s lead after breaking clear from a maul. Townsley’s conversion from under the posts was charged down.
Jack Craswell gave the home side breathing space with a penalty.
