Billingham vs Wheatley Hills
Wheatley Hills, crashed to their biggest North East League One defeat of the season at Billingham.
The league leaders ran in three unanswered tries as they romped to a 31-0 victory over third-placed Wheatley.
Wheatley felt that they were still in the game at half-time, even though they hadn’t looked like scoring, when restricting their opponents to four converted penalties despite playing into the blustery wind.
Wheatley, for whom scrum-half Ian Barker and young second-rower Stuart Tijanic played well, dominated the third quarter without being able to turn pressure into points and two Billingham tries in as many minutes effectively put paid to any comeback hopes they may have entertained.
The first came just before the hour mark when the Billingham wing broke a tackle on the halfway line and he ran 50 metres to score.
From the restart they scored again, this time the try being converted, to make it 24-0.
The home side added a third converted try in injury-time to complete the scoring.
