U11s Green v St Lawrence & HC Falcons

LIGHTENING STRIKE

The second home game of the season for the greens saw St Law & HC Falcons visit the Belmont, after 2 wins on the road and the tied game v Canterbury.
Skipper Will lost the toss and the Greens were asked to bat.
The Greens warmed up with Golds manager Barry Phillis (Golds called off again) obviously not use to the early Sunday mornings and still a bit sleepy.
The management is thinking of imposing Saturday night curfews!!.
Even the Greens expert scorer had to have a black coffee before play could commence.
The Greens batting, a short report this one 231 - 9 Mr Extras did well 2 short of a 50 (jug of ribena avoidance).
Highlights, Jess Dack and Joe Sharp resisting the Falcons attack led by the districts’ Charlie Vant.
Shots of the day Noah hooking a beamer off his nose for 4 and Alice’s cover drive to open her batting account for the Greens.

Greens short on runs opened the bowling with skipper Will and rooky Joe Clements with the field set too deep singles the Greens leaked singles. Skipper Will made adjustments and next over Archie swoops to pick off Charlie Vant run out.
With 11 overs remaining the Falcons were only 10 runs from victory thing weren’t looking good for the Greens.

But wiping the sleep from there eyes the Green started to put the pressure on, a 4 over spell from Tennant and Vanderpeer for only 5 runs including another direct hit run out from Tennant following a diving stop from skipper Will. Along with Neds bowling spell of 2-1-4-1 left the Falcons rocking.

Will and Jess to finish the innings, Jess's over with a close run out turned down by the third umpire a scrambled 2 for the Falcons, next ball 'snick' regulation take for Ryan with the gloves on puts the game in the balance.
Skipper Will last over Falcons 5 to win, dot dot edge through gully Falcon take 1 turn and try for the second Kian relay throw to Jess who takes the bails off 'HOWZAT' surly out, Third umpire checks the video evidence. (The tapes run out!!!) The only thing that is! NOT OUT.
Last ball 3 to win for the Falcons Will bowls, its lofted high into the covers Jess, Ned and Alice circling under the ball Alice gets finger tips to it but cant hang on, Falcons get two runs tied game again.

Great game of cricket the Greens held their nerve and never gave up on a game they could easily have lost, but team spirit and great bowling got them a tie which was the least they deserved!
Two home games two tied games let hope these proverbial lightening doesn’t strike 3 times for the greens I am not sure the parent’s fingernails or my grey hairs could stand it.

Batting practice for the greens this week at training.

I am off to replace the tape in the 3rd umps video machine,
til next week

Admittedly the Green's scorer was a little hungover after a late night celebrating his nieces 21st birthday and singing Delilah on the karaoke.
As for the game, the very impressive falcons opening bowler Vant, returned some very impressive figures and with Extras totalling 48 (27 wides),and Greens losing 9 wickets (Defo batting practice tuesday) 231 looked a little short, although Noah's 4 was classy and it was good to see Alice boost her confidence with the bat.
With falcons putting their eggs in the early basket, things did'nt look good at 222 with 11 overs to go, but wake up Greens did. Ned bowled tightly and with Will's brilliant stop which led to Archie running out their leading batsman and another run out with Archie again putting the ball over the stumps for 1st half keeper Kian to wip off the bails, the game was turning, suddenly there was a spring in the step,Noah,Joe C ,Joe S and Joseph fielding tigerously and a super delivery from Jess which 2nd half keeper Ryan 'gobbled up', Greens were now in the hunt. Will bowled a fantastic last over, with the last ball...just out of Alice's reach greens were denied a win, despite the umpire rubbing the sleep out his his eyes and missing the great throw from Jess at the end. So..unlucky not to win..but with 11 overs left a result we would have took
