Whittington Cricket Club

On paper this looked a potential hammering, a mixed Whittington side facing up against a very strong Lichfield outfit on feather bed of a pitch with a fast outfield and short boundaries. But cricket isn't played on paper!

Hackett again won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat. greg (37) got us off to a flyer taking the Lichfield attack to pieces before falling stumped in the 5th over with the score on 52.

Pingu made a useful 17 before becoming the third of Basset Graham's five victimes. With Whitt realing at 70 for five Dimo and Horn produced what proved to be a huge partnership.

Dimo smashed 5 sixes in a glrious 44 and was well supported by horn who produced a more measured 29, including his first senior six, a wonderfully struck lob wedge.

Some late hitting from Gass and Hardman pushed the score to 174, at the time we thought below par but you never know.

We certainly though it was below par when the first ball of the innings disapeared onto Bit End. But what followed was a brilliant team effort from Whitt.

Stoney took three wickets from his allotted over including two caught and bowleds, one a stunner to remove dangerman Price.

Greg got through his four in reasonably miserly fashion leaving us in a great position.

the big question was how our change bowling could cope. The answer suprised us all. Nick gass got one to roll to remove Kiwi pro Bassett Graham, and Chuck bowled a great spell of spin bowling going for 14 off his four overs. but the best was yet to come.

Pingu was thrown the ball as fifth bowler taking 5 wickets in his first 9 balls. Helped by two catches from Horn, one the ultimate Kodak moment, a stunning catch at full spread to his left that resulted in a trip to hospital.

Lichfield limped to 117 for 9 off their 20 only Seager making 42 making a meaningful contribution.

A brilliant team effort from Whit and a proud day for the club who can be proud of the way they performed!
