Saturday 1st team relive the highs and lows of a title winning season

At the end of a title winning season it seems worthwhile analysing the highs and lows (not many of them) of life in Staffs 2.

We went in to the league as title favourites and just about scraped it in the end. The weather didn't help us certainly. And we seem to have picked up the awful knack of getting teams nine down and not sealing the deal, but going through the entire Saturday season unbeaten is a fantastic ahievement.

Life back in Staffs 1 will be tougher, with Lichfield and Wednesbury joining the league its set to be a much more competitive league than previous years. Our young squad will need to quickly get into out stride if we are to fulfil our potential finally! and put up a good display in the top league.

Seasons Best team performance

With many easy victories and similar scorelines the stand out performance came at Armitage. On a pitch with no preperation and an outfield that was knee high we steadily built a score accelerating at the right time. Then Jim Shirely knew far to much for a team who had faired reasonably well with the bat at our place.

Seasons Low Point

The losing draw we picked up at Rugeley was quite frankly dreadful! From a quality position at 150 for one we progressed to 180 all out. Three first ballers and 2 comical ducks. Joe leaving a very straight one and Horn diverting one to slip off his Misbah Ul-Haq tribute snoz.

Player Ratings

Greg 9- A great year for Greg 3 centuries and 20 wickets. His sideburns at Highcroft drew his new Rasperry Wiggins nickname that might stick.
High Point- Carrying his bat for three centuries
Low Point- Being cleaned up by small boy 2

Tris 8- Further emphasised his reputation as a Staffs 2 bully. Reguarly wrapped on the gloves creating an interesting sweepstake every week. He will claim he was underused with the ball. the skipper won't listen.
High Point- A quality 97 on a tricky deck v Penkridge
Low Point- Being rufused access to Trinity due to excessive consumption

Jevs 9- His best season with the bat for some years, lack of fitness and wickets avalable prevented his usual success with the ball. Disgracefully drunk every Friday Night pre game.
High Point- 2 centuries and a 97 all proved to be match winning
Low Point- Disciplinary complaint for kicking the wicket in frustration against Penn.

Walker 6- A disapointing final Saturday season for the Talker with the bat, strangely his most succesful year for a while with the ball. Provided great entertainment on and off the field!
High Point- 3-9 off 10 against Penn how? we are still all unsure.
Low Point- Topless dancing in Cannock

Josef-7 Useful cameo's with the bat, 20 wickets and brilliant in the field. At his obnoxious best throughout, failing to make any friends.
High Point- 13 over spell at Wolverhampton taking 3 good wickets
Low Point- Nearly starting a riot at Highcroft!

Pingu 5- A disapointing season for the dyson left for a month to pursue his snake venom selling career then returned to bar work.
High Point- 5-19 against Lichfield in the Rotary
Low Point- Discovering Whittington isn't prime snake venom selling territory.

Leechy 6- Signed alongside Collins mid way through the season as part of the clubs sexual orientation outreach program.
High Point- A quickfire 38 at Armitage with the side under pressure
Low Point- Choice of Shorts at club day

Dan 7- A much improved season from last term. batted reasonably well throughout, keeping tailed off as the season went on.
High Point- 5 catches at Lichfield
Low Point- nearly losing the title through getting us 3 points deducted.

Horn 5- As ever the clubs most mercurial talent. A difficult year playing for the firsts (saving his runs for staffs 1) Provided much merryment in the field, and remains the clubs mascot.
High Point- First career six in the t20
Low Point- Said dismissal v Rugeley

Jimmy Howarth 9- 40 wickets and the league title a great display. Made friends at Rushall and Coseley.
High Point- 7-23 v Penn away
Low Point- Being pulled off the front foot by an eighty year old in the same game

Jim Shirley 8- A great addition to the club contributed with bat and ball, smart car adds a touch of class to a side much in need of it.
High Point- 9-32 v Tage
Low Point- Being consistantly carved over third man at Rushall

Chucky 7- Took his first first team 5fer and a couple of pearlers at short leg.
High Point- 5-54 v Wolverhampton

Stoney 5- Little contribution from the man who was somehow allowed to work with children in America this season.
High Point- Missing the team photo in the final game
Low Point- Going a bit Jimmy Saville in Tamowrth
