Three down but not out as the boys fight back against a decent HRBYC outfit.
A bright sunny Sunday soon gave way to clouds as the Panthers got off to another sleepy start. Hampton and Richmond were very well organised and used a permanent sweeper to good effect to thwart the boys early attacks. Pushing for the opener the Panthers got caught twice on the counter and then once again following a lovely H&R move to put them 3-0 up. It seemed we were all at sea but the excellent Tommy Doherty took the game by the scruff of the neck, getting the ball down and starting to find his team mates with some fantastic passing. That sparked the rest of the team into life with Aflie Hunt and Micah jarvis getting stuck in to the opposition. Micah was getting more space on the left and his first time ball into the box was cleverly controlled by Yusuf Hewavitarne who drilled home to make it 1-3. Another swift move involving Alfie, Tommy and Micah resulted in another cross into the box which again went through to the on rushing Yusuf who made no mistake, powerfully finishing from close range 2-3! - the boys were fighting back and were on top at half time.
HALF TIME WWP 2-3 HRBYC
The Panthers came out looking much more solid in the second half and sat back a bit more waiting to counter (Good suggestion Mo).
A lovely passage of passing between Tommy and Taha Butt set up the equaliser, Taha's neat pass with the outside of his boot was perfect for Yusuf Hewavitarne on the right of the box, he controlled and smashed across the keeper for his hat-trick 3-3 - what a comeback.
Do you think this team were going to stop there ? of course not, Yuvraj Sekhon and Dara Nandhra were getting into the game on the left side and Yuvraj's ball into the box found Tommy who slipped in Taha Butt, Taha's first time shot was saved well by the keeper, fortunately the ball fell to Yusuf Hewavitarne and he wasn't going to miss on this day, rifling the ball home again. 4-3 - the lead was ours !
Minutes later it was the Tommy and Taha show again, Tommy played the one two into Taha Butt, but Taha had one thing on his mind and drove into the botton corner to make it 5-3.
It looked like the lads were going to run away with it but they became a little careless and gave the ball away to the busy HRBYC winger, he scored from a tight angle to make it 5-4 (squeaky bum time)
It was a frantic end to end finish but thankfully Micah restored the two goal advantage after collecting Yusuf's cross and tucked home from close range with a clever chip 6-4 , Micah then followed up with a magnificent strike from range that was brilliantly tipped onto the bar by the HRBYC keeper (That would have been a contender for goal of the season). HRBYC hit back again, a nice passing move led to a shot heading for the corner but Lee Redmond produced a magnificent full stretch save to parry it but the HRBYC winger got to the loose ball just before Lee and squeezed it in to make it 6-5. Lee Redmond made a couple more great saves and catches in the box one from an overhead back pass, it was Lee's example of calmness that helped the boys to keep their heads and hold on for the victory. Well done Lee !
FINAL SCORE WWP 6 - 5 HRBYC. - another great team performance from this never say die team.
