History
The Spartans were formed in 2003 as the Sportsman Spartans and were based at the Sportsman pub on Whitworth Road. The club changed their name in 2005 to Whitworth Spartans to reflect the village rather than a pub and the club's base moved to the Red Lion pub in Whitworth Square. Founder members over a few pints were Steve Butterworth, Craig Irvine, Dan Baron and Robert Clegg.
The club was admitted to the Pennine League and the first league match took place in the 2004/05 season.
