Whyteleafe win first League game in Bostik Youth League East Division.
Whyteleafe got their first league win of the season away to Ashford United, at the Homelands Stadium, Ashford in Kent. Playing on a magnificent 3G Surface, Manager Darren Kenny and Coach Andy Chute had to make several changes to the team that won in the F. A. Youth Cup last week. Both strikers Ada Okorogheye and last week's two goal hero Ben Connolly were unavailable along with goalkeeper Alex Theobald, midfield player Elliot McLean and centre back Jack Clark. Fifteen year old Goalkeeper Giosue Bellagami was signed on by Manager Darren Kenny on Sunday afternoon, a tall well built young boy and he performed very well in making his debut at Under18 level. Tariq Brown made a welcome return to the side after missing the F. A. Youth Cup game against South Park through suspension. The game kicked off at a very fast pace and makeshift centre forward Cameron Myrie-Smith
, had the ball in the Ashford net after only two minutes. Whyteleafe applied the pressure and on five minutes following a foul on Sean Marcano, Lewes Millers ball into the box and Josh Berkeley failed to connect with only the keeper to beat. Ashford came back into the game with some close passing movement and a good shot by Ashford's Josh Hastings saw keeper Bellagambi pull off an excellent save, with his long clearance the ball broke through to Cameron Myrie-Smith
who was through on goal but Owens in the Ashford goal pulled off a great save. Ashford came more into the game and their Number 7 Lewis Risby was making dangerous runs down the right but left back Max Kenny
kept pace with him.Following a corner for Ashford on twenty minutes, was half cleared but the Ashford forward Josh Hastings shot home from inside the box on twenty one minutes. Play continued from end to end with both teams teams playing good passing football.. This goal gave the home team much encouragement. Lewis Miller broke up the home teams passing movements and sent a great pass to Cameron, a strong but fair challenge by full back Reece Anwad saw Cameron Myrie-Smith
go down with an ankle injury on twenty six minutes and had to be replaced by Eric Botang-Taylor. Eric made an impression straight away winning the ball in midfield and running at defenders. Ashford made a good move from the back and forced a corner down the right side on thirty eight minutes a cross into the six yard box but keeper Bellagambi punched the ball clear. On forty minutes a back pass to keeper Bellagambi who misplaced his kick which left the Ashford Striker with a clear shot on goal but Tariq Brown got back to make the challenge and the Ashford placed his shot wide of the upright.

The second half kicked off with both teams playing good attractive football and looking for that vital pass to get in the box. On fifty two minutes a great run by Sean Marcano found Adam Bambroffe who beat a couple of defenders but was fouled, a quick free kick by Lewis Miller in the area but was cleared away by the home defence. Again Ashford took control of the game and forced a corner. From the resulting corner the ball broke loose and Ashford's Number 9 smashed the ball into the net to make the score 2 - 1 on fifty seven minutes. Team Captain Tariq Brown rallied the team and good work from Josh Berkeley found Adam Bambroffe who rode two tackles before scoring the goal of the night on sixty minutes, making the score 2 - 2 . Manager Darren Kenny made his first change of the night when Neil Spencer making his league debut replacing Nile Dotting on seventy five minutes. Ashford fought very hard to get back into the game but Whyteleafe's back four of Mason, Brown, Fung, and Kenny stood firm. With Sam Mason making exciting runs down the right side he found Sean Marcano who was through on goal but a great challenge by centre half Davidson blocked his shot. Both teams were now looking for the winning goal and some attractive football was been played by both teams. Neil Spencer made a great run on goal and slipped with only the keeper to beat. replaced the hard working Adam Bambroffe on eighty three minutes. Ashford came back into the attack with a fine shot which saw keeper Bellagambi move to his right and make a crucial save. The winning goal came on eighty nine minutes when Josh Berkeley shot home from close range. An exciting game which saw Whyteleafe get their first there points of the season against a very good Ashford United side.
