Whyteleafe win second league game of the season
15 year old Neil Spencer steals the show with two goals.
A dramatic finish to a great game of football in the Sportswik Youth League, East Division, between Whyteleafe U18s and Kent side Tunbridge Wells. The two sides met earlier in the season and Tunbridge Wells ran out 4-2 winners at their Culverdon Stadium. The game kicked off at a fast pace with Tunbridge Wells making all the running and two shots in the first four minutes were saved by Whyteleafe keeper Allesandro Morrone
. Whyteleafe were missing their strong centre half Tariq Brown who was called up to the development squad for their away game at Hastings. Jack Clark
a tall 16 year old was a suitable replacement and had a magnificient game alongside the ever reliable Marco Fung
. Whyteleafe made their first attack on the away team goal on 5 minutes, when a good pasing movement started by Lewis Miller in mid-field who found Sean Marcano and his shot was saved by the excellent keeper Elliot Osborn in the away team goal. The away side were playing good football and their talented number 6 Joe Pickett was involved in most of their movements. On 15minutes Cian Richardson had a long range shot which was saved by keeper Morrone. From another Tunbridge attack Sam Mason cleared the ball which went out for a corner, from the resulting corner Joe Pickett shot wide from outside the box. The Tonbridge pressure paid off on 24minutes when Harry Foster scored the opening goal of the game from inside the six yard box. Tunbridge were creating more chances at this stage of the game and forced another corner on 30minutes whick was headed away by Jack Clark
. Whyteleafe came more into the game when Elliot McLean found Ada Okorogheye
who went pass a couple of defenders before hitting the side netting. Josh Berkerley was having a quiet game and was fouled on 35minutes, from the resulting free kick Max Kenny
had the Tunbridge keeper scrambling to knock the ball over the bar for a corner. Following the corner keeper Osborn cleared upfield to set up another away team attack but the Whyteleafe back four stood firm and cleared the danger. Whyteleafe came back into the attack Sam Mason made a run down the right flank found Ada who beat a couple of players before finding Bradley Williams
who's shot was brilliantly saved by the inform Tunbridge Wells keeper Elliot Osborn. Tonbridge came back on the attack with a couple of quick passes and a low shot whick saw keeper Morrone beaten but Marco Fung
got back to clear off the line on 44minutes and set up a whyteleafe attack which saw the ball go out of play, and Referee Tim Gilmore blow his whistle for half - time. Whyteleafe 0 - 1 Tunbridge Wells.
Manager Darren Kenny made a change for the start of the second half 15 year old Neil Spencer replacing Josh Berkerley, Whyteleafe went straight on the attack and a cross from Ada into the away team box was comfortable taken by keeper Osborn. Whyteleafe kept up the pressure with Lewis Miller and Elliot McLean taking control in midfield a pass to Bradley Williams
saw his goal bound shot blocked by Harry Barrett. Good counter attack by Tunbridge Wells and a fine shot by Ewen Jeffrey was save by Morrone in the Whyteleafe Goal. Neil Spencer was making some darting runs down the left flank and the away teams back four were finding it very hard to deal with. Tunbridge Wells made their first change on 63minutes with Harry Cohen replacing Harry Foster. Whyteleafe were getting their close passing game together and a pin point pass from Jack Clark
found Neil Spencer who shot from 25yards completely wrong footed Osborn in the Tunbridge Goal to equalise with a spectular goal on 68minutes. This goal lifted the Whyteleafe team and for the first time in the game they were in control. Tunbridge Wells made their second change on 73minutes Ollie Plunket replacing Cian Richardson. Marco Fung
made another fine run from inside his own half and his shot was saved by keeper Osborn. Manager Darren Kenny made his second substitution on 78minutes with another 15 year old Thierry Folkes
making his league debut replacing midfield player Elliot McLean. Bradley Williams
was fouled on 80minutes from the free kick Neil Spencer had a good shot but keeper Osborn came to the rescue. Whyteleafe were looking for the winning goal but the Tunbridge back four stood firm and cleared the danger. Corner for Whyteleafe on 85minutes the ball was headed out, Neil Spencer headed the ball back towards goal and their was Elliot Osborn to collect the ball and make the save. Cameron Myrie - Smith replaced Bradley Williams
on 88minutes. Another Whyteleafe attack saw Neil Spencer come inside from the wing beat two players and passed to Sean Macrano who fired home to make the score 2 - 1 on 89minutes. From the restart Tunbridge charged forward and won a free kick, Ryan Bush took the kick but his long range effort was saved by keeper Morrone, from his clearance the ball fell to Ada who beat three defenders before passing to Man of the Match Neil Spencer to score his second goal of the game on 90+2 minutes and Whyteleafe were Winners by 3- 1.
