Wick smash 8 past Patchway
Wick 8 - 0 Patchway Town
Wick welcomed another local team, Patchway Town to Oldbury Lane for our league fixture after dropping down to 4th place having not played last weekend. Wick started this game cautious of knowing Patchway’s long history in the county league, but was soon into their stride. On 10 minutes, alarm bells started ringing for Patchway as a Wick free kick just cleared the bar from 30 yards out. Wick started putting more pressure on the opponents goal and a surging run by Joe Thomas down the right, seeing his cross met by a header from brother Sam Thomas which beat the Patchway keeper, but the inside of the post came to Patchway’s rescue. Mid-way through the first half following a series of corners, Wick doubled their lead when a Joe Treasure header from 12 yards beat the Patchway keeper. Wick continued pressing with Patchway rarely getting out of their own half. Wick’s pressure paid off on 42 minutes when James Pocock collected the ball in defence and drove forward releasing Sam Thomas. Thomas beat two defenders and found Pocock who had continued his run into the box, who beat the Patchway keeper low to his left. Just before the final whistle Wick made it 4-0, when a crisp drive from Mike Hardiman found the corner of the net. In added time, Joe Treasure added his second with a low strike giving Wick a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Wick started the second in full control and riding high. Confidence was flowing and on 50 minutes a sweetly struck drive by James Pocock just clipped the Patchway crossbar. Thomas and George Cryer were causing the Patchway defence no end of problems, then on 56 minutes a fine through ball from Cryer set Thomas free with only the keeper to beat but he pulled his shot wide. On 65 minutes Kieron Hutson replaced Shaun Morris. A net 1-2 move between Hardiman and Danny Sheldon, put Sam Thomas through for Wick’s sixth. On 77 minutes George Cryer made way for Sam Baber. Wick scored 2 further goals in the last 10 minutes after the Patchway number 11 was shown a red card for a rash tackle on Wick’s Mike Hardiman. Hardiman found the bottom corner of the net after 90 minutes for Wick’s seventh and in added time, Hardiman was the provider this time setting Sam Baber free to score Wick’s eighth.
