Widnes RUFC Colts are looking forward to the challenge of defending last seasons league and cup double when battle re-commences on 6th September with a home match against Eccles. The game is a curtain raiser to the 50th Anniversary fixture.
But it will be a new look side that take the field following the loss of several players who have now moved up into the senior ranks.
New players coming into the squad this season include; Dean Morris, Adam Price, Scott Thompson and Jonathan Preston, all from West Park. Matthew Smith from St Edwards School, Paul McLindon from Sale Sharks, Sam Witty, a second row forward from LSH, and Kyle Ogburn who joins from amateur Rugby League. Liam Clark will captain the side with Josh Paton as vice captain.
“Everyone is looking forward to the challenge ahead,” said Coach Paul Newall. “We have a really good talented squad at our disposal this year, and everyone is looking forward to the first game against Eccles” he added.
