Widnes RUFC make a return to action in North One West on Saturday, when they travel to take on Cumbrian rivals Kendal.

All clubs were forced to sit out last Saturday because of an enforced weather break which was written into the fixture list issued in May.

The break offered the players the chance to rest their aching limbs as well as allowing any niggling injuries to clear. More importantly, though, it offered them the chance to recharge their batteries in readiness for the run in to the Xmas break, where they face some tough challenges with games against Carlisle and Broughton Park at home, and Vale of Lune and Warrington away.

Saturday’s game at Mint Bridge, does though offer Widnes the perfect opportunity to show exactly where they are in the pecking order as Kendal are currently right up there in second spot, a point behind leaders Birkenhead Park, and desperate to get back into the National Leagues from where they came the season before last.

Kendal opened the season in fine style with six successive wins, but have since lost two from three against Carlisle and Broughton Park.

For the visitors, they still have fresh in their mind last season’s agonising 35 – 34 defeat at Mint Bridge, where a last second conversion went over to deny them victory.

Spectators are reminded that the game kicks off at the earlier time of 2.00pm.
