This is a re-arranged fixture – the only league game to be played in North One West this weekend - after the original fixture was abandoned after 59 minutes, following a serious neck injury to a Vale player.

This should be an intriguing contest and one that will be difficult to call.

The home side are in the middle of a wretched run, which has seen them lose six successive games that has sent them tumbling down the table into ninth place. And, with the likes of Bolton and Eccles beginning to find some form, this is a game they really need to win if they are to keep themselves well away from any sort of end of season scramble.

Widnes, too, are having a mixed time of it.

They began 2015 with a disappointing performance away at Kirkby Lonsdale, before just about edging out Eccles at Heath Road. And, last weekend they suffered at the hands of leaders Birkenhead Park who are now looking the real deal and favourites for promotion.
