Widnes completed the double over their Lancashire hosts in a very open and entertaining game.
Widnes playing with the wind in the first half used the advantage well with intelligent kicks from Danny Price and Michael Jones. Josh Argent, Tom Spencer and Luke Nelson made strong runs through the Rochdale defence in the early stages of the game. Half way through the half Widnes took the lead Alex Clare jinking his way over after neat work from Adam Watson. The second half saw Widnes take control of the game, a thirty yard break from Charles Lang saw the Wids recycle the ball through their three quarters to Danny Mellor who released the strong running Luke Nelson to touch down from 30 yards out. Michael Jones added the conversion. Danny Price then raced 65 yards after intercepting a loose Rochdale pass to put the game beyond Rochdale's reach. With 6 minutes remaining Rochdale were awarded a penalty try, the referee losing his patience after Widnes had conceded a number of penalties close to their line. With the last play of the game Rochdale scored an excellent try to complete the scoring. Tom Spencer was awarded the North West Contracts man of the match, just ahead of Josh Argent.
