A 1-0 win at Ashton Athletic on the final day of the league season seals back-to-back promotions

Widnes Football Club have secured promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West following a 1-0 win at Ashton Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday.

Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey's side finished the season in second place in the Hallmark Security on 96 points after 44 games.

The Whites won 23 of their last 25 league games to propel themselves towards a second consecutive promotion - the first North West Counties side to achieve the feat since AFC Fylde in 2009.

Widnes join Champions Runcorn Linnets in the fourth tier of the English Non-League Pyramid for the 2018/19 season, looking forward to league games against sides such as Prescot Cables, Colwyn Bay and Droylsden.
