Widnes manager Steve Hill admits that he is concerned with the defensive frailties his team are experiencing at the moment.

So far this season Widnes have conceded 20 goals in only 8 league games so far. He said “We need to sort the defence out. The defence have got to know their jobs and they were just very naïve. But today we managed to score a few goals which obviously we haven’t been doing. Four goals should be enough to win a game of football. If we are having to score five goals a game in order for us to win then something has to be done.”
Widnes shipping in another four goals against Rochdale Town in a dramatic game, Hill said ““Disappointed in the manner we have conceded the last goal, which the referee deems it a penalty. It did hit his hand, there is no getting away from that but how can you get away with something like that. It is his decision at the end of the day. We needed to have killed the game off. Defensive frailties have cost us big time because that was 2 points dropped.”
It is a break from league action next weekend as Barnton welcome Widnes in the Men United Challenge Cup First Round, Hill said “Ideally it’s the league that we want to concentrate on because we want to try and get out of this division, like any other team. The cup games are a nice little addition and incentive for us but at the end of the day it is the league that we want to focus on. We take each game as it comes but we are just looking forward to the game against Barnton to see what happens.”
