Manager reacts to Widnes' 5-0 win over Eccleshall

Joey Dunn was pleased to see his side overcome a potentially difficult game on Saturday, as Widnes coasted to a 5-0 win over second-bottom Eccleshall at the Select Security Stadium.

Strikers Billy Webb and Chad Whyte both netted braces for Widnes, with George Lomax also getting his name on the scoresheet as the Whites recorded a 10th consecutive league victory.

Speaking after the game, Dunn credited his side for producing another great performance to push on in the title race.

"I thought that we played well," Dunn said.

"It was a potentially a difficult game - we knew that they'd been struggling.

"We were mindful of playing on Monday so we had to rotate a bit but I thought that we were great again.

"The lads deserve all the credit in the world. They applied themselves well and did a lot of really good things.

"I think that it shows the strength of the squad. If we had named the same side that we did on Tuesday, I don't think that we would have got much more out of the game.

"The objective of today was three points, so it was a really good day and we move on to Monday's game now."

With striker Webb finding the net twice on his return from suspension, Dunn was pleased to welcome the Widnes man back into the fold, insisting that his side's strength in-depth is massively important with only four games remaining.

"Our strength in-depth is really important," Dunn said.

"If you look at the sides that we've put out in the last five, six or seven games, we'd struggle to put someone out there who hasn't been a seven or an eight out of 10.

"That's what we need. The lads are bubbly, keen and they want to play.

"They're playing with a really good tempo so you can't really ask for much more than that."

Widnes' Easter Weekend continues on Monday when Dunn takes his side to Chadderton. The manager insists that his side will remain focused on the task in-hand and look to pick up all three points.

He said: "We've got to concentrate on what we want to do.

"We'll be going there with players who were kept fresh today and we'll rotate again.

"We're only looking for three points. Once we do that, we can see what else is happening around us.

"But to be honest, we're only concentrating on our games at the moment."
