Widnes FC welcome Northern Premier League Premier Division side Skelmersdale United to the Select Security Stadium on Monday Night...

in the quarter-finals of the Men United Cup. It will be the first ever meeting between the two sides with the extra incentive of a semi-final berth being on the line.
Widnes FC come into the game in good form, having won back-to-back league games in emphatic fashion, scoring ten goals and conceding just once. Their most recent win came at Ashton Town, who were powerless to resist as the away side cruised to a 4-1 victory.
Skelmersdale United are going through a poor run of form, despite their standing at the top of the table, as they sit seven points clear of second place Curzon Ashton. That means that they rank 75 places above Widnes in the English Football Pyramid. They have won only once in the seven games that they have played this month, which was a league victory over Nantwich Town. Last time out, they were on the wrong side of a heavy 4-1 league defeat against Ilkeston.
Widnes dispatched Prescot Cables in the first round 5-4 on penalties, after a 3-3 draw in normal time. Skelmersdale defeated Litherland REMYCA 5-2 in that round to advance to this stage.
Widnes’ Alex Davies and Tom Mitchell will definitely miss out on the game for the home side through injury whilst Paul Carney is doubtful after missing the Ashton Town game through illness. Daniel Garvey is out after picking up a knee injury in that game. Goalkeeper David Nevitt will also miss the tie as he is unavailable which means Ben Morrow will deputise in goal for the home side.
Fraser Ablett will return to the squad after missing out on the trip to Ashton. Jamil Campbell-Joseph could also be in contention after a few weeks out with a hamstring injury. Newly acquired defender Ryan Laughton could also be in contention, after finalising his move last week.
Widnes manager Steve Hill is looking forward to the encounter. “We’re looking forward to the game because obviously, Skelmersdale are a very good side. They play good football with good players, the club is in a position where we would like to be so it’s going to be a test for us. So hopefully, we can raise our game and give them a game.”
