Last Sunday the under 10’s took the trip over the East Lancs to play Blackbrook Blues. A shortage of players due to summer rugby meant only 10 were there to play, including a debut for Archie Dewse
Play got under way and it was Cuthbert’s who first realised that there would be gaps out wide, a good pass and Adam Lavin
was away for a good score. Blackbrook hit straight back with a great kick out wide and then took the lead with a second try also from a kick. Great vision from the kicker and attackers, gave us something to practice at training. Cuths hit back strong and started to put the work done in training into practice and good passing moves led to well worked tries for Ben Deakin and Liam McNamara
. A late score by the home team and the half time score was 14-14.
Unfortunately half way through the half, Archie ran in hard and had a head collision resulting in a bad cut and a visit to the hospital, sad way to finish his debut game and he was really fitting in well.
The second half got under way and with Archie off, the teams were down to 9 a side. The gaps opened up and the new move from the dangerous duo of Max and Leo started to show what it could do. Leo starting and finishing a good move out wide. Blackbrook came back again, but as the legs got tired, cuths threw the ball around again. Another well worked try by Leo Barr
, before the move of the match. It went right then left through so many hands, before ending up with new winger Ben Deakin to race in for his second try.
Great work by all. We worked hard in training and started to take this into games. The passing moves worked well especially after some good solid drives. Great work in defence from Adam Hopwood
and Ben charnock and things are coming together.
A big thanks to all at Blackbrook, the coaching staff all made us welcome and the parents were a credit to the club. Quite a few of our parents commented on their friendliness during a hard game. Thanks to the parent who left to help Archie’s parents find the local hospital as well.
