Last Saturday saw Gateshead visit Lowmoor Road in the final pre-season match.

The game was played in 4x 20 minute sessions with rolling subs.

Both sides had squads of 22 and in perfect conditions spectators were well entertained as both sides produced a pacy, committed high scoring game.

Wigton took the score line 39 - 32 and after dominating the early exchanges they rattled up a 20 point lead. But Gateshead dominated the final session scoring 2 converted tries in the process.

Wigton scored 7 tries through Scott Smith 2, Gregg Smith, Richard Moffatt, Ferguson Ledingham, Steve Harris and Stuart Creighton. Cory Bouch converted 2.

There were 1st XV debuts for 5 players, front rowers Ralph Chamberlain and Kev Robinson; lock Fian Clark and flankers Peter Thorneycroft and Chris Owen .

It was also pleasing to see Colin Sessford back on the park after missing 10 months following knee surgery.

Saturday 30th August is a cup weekend - the 1st XV have a bye and the Wanderers XV have an away draw at Creighton RUFC Kick off 3.00pm.
