Steel and Seymour's 230 crashes the all-time batting partnership record

Following last weeks highest ever total hit by the second XI, 314 at home against Histon III, yesterday's game saw the highest ever partnership at the club since records began in the 'new era' - since 2011.

When the captain James Seymour joined his vice Calum Steel -pictured above- at the crease the pressure was certainly on the Oaktrees. At 31-3 it needed something more than special to help raise the total to a competitive target in this top of the table clash, and more than special is just what it got.

Calum Steel struck his maiden century, going on to hit 130 runs after raising his cap in a very special moment for the all-rounder. His skipper supported him well rotating the strike whilst punishing a loose delivery to strike his maiden 50, going onto hit 81 himself. When the partnership was broken the pair had added 230 runs together, to help the set the visitors Needingworth another mammoth total.

Steel told us how 'it hasn't really sunk in to be honest' in regards to striking his first ton. He went onto say 'it just went so quickly once i got my fifty, the next thing I knew I was raising my cap. It was a very proud moment.'

The newly branded S and S will look to carry their flying form on as the 2nd XI entertain Abbots Ripton this week, another top of the table clash at this early stage of the season.
