Report:

Two goals from Captain Graham Lazonby saw Willington come away with an important three points as they pulled away from the relegation places at the bottom of Division 2.
Willington came into the game on the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday night but welcomed Anth Lee and Chris Hardy back into the squad as well as recent signings Reece Brown and Malik Kalimba.
Willington played their usual 4-4-2 formation and took time to get to grips with their opponents 3-5-2 as Birtley shaded the opening exchanges. It was Willington who struck first however as Lazonby was quickest to react to a knock down from Anth Lee to prod past the goalkeeper. 0-1.
It was 2-0 shortly after with that man Lazonby again on target, this time climbing highest to head home a well delivered corner from Isam Mohamad. Birtley will have felt aggrieved that no free-kick was awarded for what looked a clear foul. 0-2.
The score remained the same up to half-time and Willington went in looking comfortable at the break. Birtley responded well at the start of the second half however and deservedly got a goal back as their captain fired home a lose ball in the box after Willington failed to clear a set piece. 1-2.
Birtley looked the stronger side at this point but a quickly taken free-kick set substitute Will Preston clear and he squared for Luke Black to coolly tuck the ball into the bottom corner and effectively put the game to bed. 1-3.
Willington’s other two substitutes combined shortly after for the fourth goal as Malik Kalimba put Antony Telfer clear to net his first goal for the club before Birtley got one back at the death following some poor defending at a set-piece . 2-4 Full Time
