Holders Shildon comfortably beat Durham City 3-0 in the last 16 of the Durham Challenge Cup last night.

The Railwaymen took the lead after just 4 minutes, when Micky Rae knocked the ball down for Ben Wood to score with a left foot shot that hit the inside of the post and went in.

With the wind at their backs, they missed several chances to score more goals, but they scored a deserved second just after half time when Wood hit the post, and when the ball was played back into the six yard box, he was on hand to tap in.

It was 3-0 when Lee Chapman scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

There were goals galore at Norton, where visitors Jarrow Roofing won 6-5.

Roofing took a two goal lead through Lewis Teasdale and Jack Errington, but Norton hit back with goals by Gary Mitchell and Harrison Davies before the 20th minute. Roofing went 4-2 up at half time with further goals by Malky Morien and Errington, and then just before the hour Morien made it 5-2.

But Norton stormed back to level 5-5 with three goals in six minutes by Tom Bligh, Mitchell and Davies.

But Morien had the last word, scoring the winner and completing his hat trick with eight minutes left.

In the second division of the ENL, leaders Seaham Red Star came from behind to win 3-2 at Ryhope CW.

Seaham took the lead with a penalty by new signing Warren Byrne, but early in the second half Ryhope hit back with goals by Paul Braithwaite and a Nathan O’Neill penalty. However, Darryl Donnelly levelled for Seaham with just over ten minutes left, and late in the game Adam Johnson scored the winner for Seaham from the spot.

Chester-le-Street lost 3-2 at home to Heaton Stannington, while Ryton and Crawcrook beat Brandon 3-2, with Dan Robinson scoring all of their goals, Tom Callaghan and Billy Snaith replied for Brandon.

Brandon manager Paul Tunstall quit after their defeat at Ryton and Crawcrook on Tuesday night, and he has been replaced by Lee Jewitt.
