MIDWEEK ROUND-UP BROOKS MILESON NL CUP & DURHAM COUNTY CHALLENGE CUP

Willington lost 4-1 at home to Penrith. The Cumbrians took the lead on 13 minutes when Connor Thomson scored, but Reece Marshall equalised for Willington. Dan Robinson restored Penrith’s lead just before half time, and in the second half Penrith scored twice in the last six minutes through Martyn Coleman and Grant Davidson.

North Shields striker Gareth Bainbridge scored a hat trick as they put Newcastle Benfield out of the League Cup 4-3 tonight.

Bainbridge put Shields ahead from the edge of the box on 9 minutes, but Paul Brayson levelled for Benfield on 38 minutes with a low shot. But Shields regained the lead when Benfield keeper Andy Grainger miskicked, leaving Bainbridge with a simple tap in. Ryan Carr scored the third with a deflected effort, and Bainbridge was left unmarked to score the fourth. Dan Taylor and Gary Day pulled late goals back for Benfield.

Guisborough beat Norton 1-0, with a goal by Liam McPhillips.

Billingham Synthonia, under new manager Conrad Hillerby, won 3-1 at West Allotment. Synners took the lead with a header by Michael Sweet, and they held on until David Dormand equalised for Allotment midway through the second half. Sweet and Dan Newby scored in extra time.

Stokesley came from behind to beat Darlington RA 4-1.

The RA took the lead through Mark Sims, but Stokesley levelled through Ben Bonner. He got another from a cross by Greg Upton, who scored the third after dribbling through and firing into the bottom corner. Dave Edwards completed the scoring.

DURHAM CHALLENGE CUP

Ryhope CW used three keepers in their 5-2 defeat by Consett in the Durham Challenge Cup tonight.

Ryhope took an early lead through David Pounder, but Aris Guerin-Lokonga quickly equalised. Ryhope then had keeper Barry Poskett dismissed on 15 minutes for handling outside the area, and soon after Josh Gray fired into the top corner past emergency keeper Gary Pearson and put Consett in front. Gray then crossed for Michael Mackay to make it 3-1, and then Gray unleashed another thunderbolt into the top corner for 4-1. Mackay then got another from a Calvin Smith assist. In the second half, youngster Anthony Rookes went in goal and kept a clean sheet. Martin Metcalfe scored at the other end.

Bishop Auckland came from behind to beat Crook 3-2 in the Northern League Cup.

Crook scored their first goal in five matches after 17 minutes when James Paylor headed in a long free kick and they nearly added a second before the break.

Bishops levelled on 47 minutes when Andy Johnson’s right foot shot from a corner deflected off a defender into the top corner of the net.

Bishops slowly got on top, and Kyle Davis put them in front with a low left foot volley from the edge of the box on 74 minutes, then Glen Lane’s left foot was directed past his own keeper by Crook defender James Paylor. John Alexander pulled a goal back when he fired across keeper Scott Pocklington.

Shildon easily won 4-0 at Tow Law.

Shildon took the lead on 37 minutes when Sam Hodgson’s effort was blocked, but Danny Moore was there to score from the rebound. They made the game safe in the last ten minutes when Ben Wood hit the post, and Adam Rundle scored from the rebound. Wood opened up the defence for Moore to score the third, then Wood got the fourth.

Seaham beat last season’s losing finalists Whitley Bay 6-2 in the shock of the night.

Seaham took the lead when the Whitley keeper fumbled a shot, and Josh home-Jackson scored from a couple of yards, but Michael Laws levelled from the edge of the box just before half time. Home-Jackson restored Seaham’s lead at the second attempt in the second half, then Lewis Wing hit a 25 yarder to make it 3-1. Liam McBryde got the fourth from a Sonny Andrews assist, and ten minutes from time Home-Jackson chipped the fifth. Andrews was left unmarked for another, before Paul Chow scored a late consolation.

Washington beat Jarrow Roofing 3-2 with a last minute winner in their local derby.

Washington took the lead when Dan Iredale scored with a deflected cross then Chris Winn broke away and scored the second.

In the second half, Wayne Phillips scored from a Lewis Teasdale free kick, and Aaron Croft put through his own goal to put Roofing back into the game. However, Winn quickly scored at the other end for the winner.

Newton Aycliffe came from behind to beat Hebburn 3-1. Josh Allen gave Hebburn the lead, but Mark Stephenson levelled near half time. Martin Young and Richard Archer scored for Aycliffe in extra time.

Dunston UTS beat Sunderland RCA 2-0 with goals by Gary Ormston and Andy Bulford , Ashington thumped Thornaby 7-0 away from home, with Kyle Oliver (2), Andy Johnson (2) Tony Stephenson (2) and Glen Taylor getting the goals.
