Over the last 10 years our club has engaged with 3 of the major sports clothing suppliers in this country to supply team kit, sports clothing and leisure ware etc. Our experience with O’Neils, Kooga and Surridge proved very frustrating with their quality of service and delivery.
You may be aware all the companies failed to live up to expectations and we terminated the contracts with all 3 of them. Buccaneer acted as our main contact point and, unfortunately for them on many occasions, were blamed for the inadequacies of the clothing manufacturers.
Outside of team kits, Buccaneer have also supplied shorts, socks, t-shirts, tops etc. for not only individual orders but also for stock in the club shop. We have historically used Buccaneer because they are local, we have a good relationship with the owner and we have a degree of control through one channel.
This year, after cancelling our contract with Surridge and following a tender process and lengthy negotiations, we have signed a new exclusive contract with Buccaneer. This contract is for 3 years.
One of the issues in the past has been problems with communication and the expediting of all orders with Buccaneer. To resolve this situation, we have appointed Sarah Kinder as the sole point of contact for all things to do with Buccaneer Sports.
Buccaneer have also appointed a new Director of Sportswear. Richard Lamb is now our main contact and he liase with Sarah on a daily basis.
Buccaneer has chosen a non-branded manufacturer to supply the team kit and from the samples that we have seen, the quality is impressive. Their manufacturing partner has promised a 3 week delivery time from sign off of artwork.
The terms of the contract are financially beneficial and potentially very lucrative to our rugby club, however the contract agrees they have EXCLUSIVE SUPPLY of all team kit, leisure ware, sportswear, ancillary items, the ‘WPRFC’ brand and rights to our club logo/badge.
Whilst we have experienced issues with our kit suppliers in the past, we are confident that the steps we have taken and the depth of the relationship we have developed should result in a much-improved service.
As you would expect if we break any of the terms of the contract (kit being obtained by a non-approved supplier) we as a club will face significant financial penalties.
We cannot state this strongly enough - the contract is for ALL Sportswear supplied to WPRFC and there must be no deviation from the agreement.
We are in the process of stocking a new and exciting range of products in the shop so let’s give the new contract a chance as we are confident that it will work to the benefit of everyone.
