1st team avoid drop!
Park make their point.
In what’s been a tough, dis-jointed season was reflected again on Saturday when injury and unavailability meant veterans Mark Warr/Mark Patterson had to sit on the bench as the Team were short on numbers. The game was going to be tough and a large home crowd certainly made their voice heard and cheered the home team on. Park started very well dominating the scrum and Ian Moriarty disrupting the home side’s lineout, the early signs looked good. This was soon short lived when 2 Quick tries from the dangerous backs help the Wire into a 14 nil lead, Park also lost Joe Robbins to a nasty Cheek injury and once again Park were up against it. To their credit the heads did not drop despite a further score from Warrington that gave them a 21 nil lead Park replied before HT with Try from the outstanding Will Armstrong and a Penalty and Conversion from Sam Brookes. The score at the break was 21-10.
Warrington needed a 5 point win to secure their own survival and their desire and physicality was shown early in the 2 nd half when they stopped Park in their tracks despite good runs from Ben Richardson and Harry Stubbs who became very much a target for the home side. Park knew they needed to keep the game tight with the forwards and deny Warrington loose ball which their backs could capitalize on. This worked well and despite 3 yellow cards to the home side the second half was a tough exciting affair. Tries were exchanged and parks came from Sean Underhill and a Hatrick for Will Armsrtong. Park played to their strengths which was a forward driven game while the Wire played typical expansive rugby which Park struggle to deal with.
News had filtered through that Sale were winning convincingly but this did not take the edge of this game which had the feel of a game to survive. The ref had trouble controlling the finals minutes and when the whistle went there was relief all round and in the spirit of rugby despite a tough game their were handshakes and smiles all round as both teams had secured their survival.
Park need to rest the injuries in the next month, regroup and some of the players need to decide what they want to do. Some of the application, dedication has certainly been lacking in recent months which is not fit for the Shirt and Club they play for. The previous 2 winning seasons with 2 cup wins are long forgotten and Park need to get fit and hit the ground running in 2012/2013.

Willio Burgess - 1 year agoThis 5 point victory, the seventh win in eight games, kept Warrington in the South Lancs/Cheshire 1 league. The action packed game saw 10 tries, 4 yellow cards and served up a complete contrast in rugby styles, Warrington’s open running rugby triumphing over the dour forward mauling of the visitors. Warrington opened the scoring early with their typical flair when a break from Roberts taken on by Riley gave Rickard a score near the posts. Roberts added the extras and slotted a penalty five minutes later. Winnington responded in kind before centres Rockey and Rickard seared through the Winnington defence for a try by Rockey under the posts. Roberts converted.
Winnington returned to the attack however with their typical driving mauls and Warrington got their first yellow card for pulling the maul down. Warrington gave away a further a string of penalties before Winnington crossed in the corner. However, just before the interval winger Fraser got his name on the scoreboard finishing off a slick handling movement started by full back Jones from a poor Winnington kick. The conversion by Roberts took the score to 24-10 at the interval.
Just after the restart Fraser again scampered half the length of the park when quick ball down the line gave him room to move. Rockey added his second try five minutes later stretching the lead to 36-10. However, Winnington bounced back immediately with a try from a rolling maul which they now seemed to realise was their only likely method of scoring. Winnington thus began to keep the ball tight and only dedicated defence from the lighter Warrington pack kept them at bay. Warrington made the most of their chances, however, and their well rehearsed looping move put Hughes in in the corner with twenty minutes to go. The winger then received a yellow card for an ajudged high tackle and was joined on the bench shortly after by scrum half Wood. With Warrington reduced to 13 men the Winnington pack again rumbled over in the corner. With the game losing a bit of shape Rockey edged Warrington further ahead with a penalty and Winnington earned themselves a bonus point, scoring in the last minute with yet another driving maul.
