Match report by Dave Snasdell
Park did not get out of the starting blocks on this beautiful sunny day. They paid the price with the home team scoring two tries within ten minutes with some impressive running from the lightning fast winger, who shocked the visiting fans with his pace on the wing. A short time after Park conceded a penalty then a further try within 30 minutes were losing 22 to 0 which was unchartered territory.
On the half hour mark Park where given a penalty for handling on the ground and the Tarleton player shown the yellow card. The Park pack drove to the line and hooker Andrew Evans dived over . Cameron Flanagan converted however the hard work was short lived with Tarleton responding straight away with a further try from the winger. The kick was converted seeing Park coming off at the half time whistle 29 to 7 with a big battle ahead.
The half time talk by coach Matt Farr did the trick and within ten minutes Park looked focused and after sustained pressure on the Tarleton try line Park were back on the score sheet with a try from Chris Shepard and the kick converted by Flanagan.
Within minutes a further try came from Dan Williams with the pack putting the pressure on in a driving maul. The conversion was missed.
Park suffered a setback with a yellow card for Chris Shepard for interfering with the player on the ground not releasing. Tarleton put the pressure back on Park. Dan Williams sustained an injury to his knee defending his line. He was replaced by Chris Heales who made his first appearance for the first team this season.
Tarleton capitalised and scored a further try.
Park continued to fight back with some great play by the forwards which payed off with another pushover try by Chris Shepard with the kick being converted by Cam Flanagan. Park confidence was growing and they had narrowed the score giving the travelling fans some hope of a victory. James Johnson came off for Dan Eastwood.
A further try came with again some impressive phased play by the forwards to see Shaun Underdown drive over after sustained pressure on the Tarleton defence. Cam Flanagan converted leaving the score 34 to 33 within a couple of minutes to play.
Park continued to push forward but the Tarleton defence held strong leaving the final score 34 to 33 with a nail biting last few minutes.
Coach Farr said, “This was a disappointing result we took 15 minutes to get into our game which cost us dearly. Two quick tries by Tarleton winger put us on the back foot for the rest of the game. I was impressed by our second half performance with some great forward play. There is no room for complacency in this league and the lads need to focus for the full eighty minutes if we are to progress in this tough league.
