Bowdon 40 Wprfc 10
Wprfc have festive hangover
Match report by Dave Snasdell
This was not the game to start the New Year playing the top of the league having had a couple weeks off with the festive period. Within minutes Park were on the back foot with a clinical try from Bowden winning the ball in the scrum passing
the ball down the backs to score in the corner. The conversion was missed. Park composed themselves and focused on the game and kept Bowden attacking line at bay for over 25 minutes until they broke through the Park defence with a second try and conversion.
Within five minutes Park were on the score sheet with a penalty from Cameron Flanagan after Bowden were judged to be offside. Dave Cross came off with a blood injury and was replaced by veteran all-rounder Joe Robins. Bowden continued
to apply the pressure and were rewarded with a further try after they intercepted a pass and scored underneath the posts. The try was converted. Captain Dave Cross came back on rallied the troops and the Park forwards were rewarded with a penalty try just
before the half time whistle as the Bowden front row continually pulled the scrum down. One of the Bowden prop forwards was given the yellow card. Park went in 19 to 10 down confident they could pull the game back for the travelling fans.
The second half unfortunately started as the first with Bowden scoring a try in the first few minutes through sloppy Park defence.
Coach Farr made some changes bringing on Dan Williams for Gary Dykes and Jack Williams for Jimmy Moran and Joe Robbins for Andrew Evans. Park gave it all for the next thirty minutes and played some positive rugby taking the game to Bowden
but they did not capitalise on the good work particular the forwards although smaller in statue to the Bowden pack out played them in the scrums and mauls but could not finish the final phase.
The pressure took its toll on Park and Bowden ran in a further two tries before the game finished 40 to 10 to the home team. The end score flattered the league leaders in the end and I am sure they felt they had , had a tough game at
the end of play. Some good play by Dan Snowden in the front row developing in this position this season. The young Sam Houghton put some great tackles in and Lee Allmark coming back in the first team the first time this season had some great runs at the Bowden
