Match report by Dave Snasdell
After a tough game last week against Bowden, this week was going to be just as tough against Rochdale who have won their last eleven games since Park beat them 3 nil at Rochdale.
Park started well and within two minutes were on the scoreboard with a penalty kick for offside with Cameron Flanagan getting the three points.
This was short lived with a penalty against Park for coming in at the side of a ruck. Rochdale kicked the points equalling the score. Park conceded a further penalty for offside with Rochdale kicking the points. The game was evenley matched with both sets off packs giving nothing away. Although Rochdale were a far heavier pack Park matched them up front.
Rochdale lost a player for holding on in the maul and given a yellow card and Park capitalised on this with pressure on the Rochdale try line, Harry Stubbs drove over to give Park a well deserved try. The kick was missed.
Rochdale continued to apply pressure on Park with some sloppy discipline they were awarded two penalties in succession before half time conveted them both to lead the game 8 to 12 at half time.
The spectators were been blown around in the blustering cold wind but this did not deter them from watching a great game of rugby.
Within minutes of starting the second half Park were penalised for not releasing the ball and Rochdale converted another three easy points.
Coach Farr made some changes bring off Matt Treacy for Alex Glendining .
Park continued to build the pressure and had been camped on the Rochdale try line for about five minuted when they were awarded with a penalty try for Rochdale deliberately wheeling the scrum and saw a player given a yellow card. The score were equal and the crowd were going to be in for a great last twenty minutes of rugby.
Captain Dave Cross came off with a knee injury to be replaced by Gary Dykes. The tackle and defence by both sides was fantastic with no one giving an inch. Park began to take control and again with a powerful maul and drive pushed over 10 metres to go over the try line with Dan Williams get the spoils with the try. The conversion was missed in the blustery conditions.
Rochdale came back at Park and for the last five minutes were inches from scoring after numerous scrums five metres from the Park try line but Parks defence was awesome and they could not get through it. The final play came when a Rochdale player knocked on and relief was felt by all players and spectators as the final whistle went with the score 20 to 15 to Park.
All the Park players gave it their all but Andrew Evans hooker, props Shaun Underdown and Dan Snowdon stood out with same great scrum work throughout the game.
This was one of the best fought games of the season and the team can be proud of a full eighty minute shift.
