U15s: a hard game at Whitchurch
Whitchurch u15s 15:10 WPRFC u15s
Winnington survived a series of hard onslaughts and gave as good as they got to finish just behind: two scores to Whitchurch's three. It was an exciting back-and-forth game to watch, dominated by physical play in the breakdown.
Despite three quick and dangerous opposition attacks right from the off, Park scored first. Putting significant effort into twelve phases on the left side of the field, a quick switch to the right ended up with DanH running in a try.
Whitchurch retaliated more-or-less immediately to make the score 5:5.
The second third was mostly Park's, but repeated deep tactical opposition kicking put our back line under pressure, resulting in an lucky try for the home side.
WPRFC started the last third hard. MJ ran with the ball. A series of quick rucks led to the ball being popped out to DanH to score his second try of the day, making it evens (10:10).
This balanced position was short-lived as Whitchurch came right back take the lead.
As the last play was announced, Park held onto possession for over ten phases, making it all the way up the field only to lose the ball close to the opposition try line.
In summary, a hard-fought and exciting game. Good defensive work. Winnington demonstrated resilience ...the players holding their heads high throughout.
DanH had a very good game with lot of tackles, runs and two tries. Ben was massive in both defence and attack. Alex stepped up. Jamie played well.
More work to be done on fitness as well as on attack and depth
Scorers: DanH (x2 tries)
