Wilmslow u15s 48:5 WPRFC u15s
A tough day at the office for the Winnington team. They were out-run, out-muscled and overpowered by a better-on-the-day Wilmslow team. Park kept going without dropping their heads to finally put their own score on the board at the death.
A game of silly mistakes, missed tackles, persistent down-the-centre-play, loss of ball at the breakdown and the scrum as well as general slowness cost the team dearly. Players being put into experimental positions exacerbated the problem against a very good opponent. Wilmslow put one on the board virtually from the off, the scorer running down the right, evading three tackles, kicking, evading two more tackles on possession before placing the ball down over the score line.
Park took the game to the opposition again and again, but just couldn't break through until the final minute.
WillG had a spectacular very early long-range run, but just couldn't control the ball in the try area. Elliott had a significant amount of vital tackles and catches. Luke played a good defensive game on the wing. Bruce was persistent in picking and running into the pack, trying to create space. WillA and James were everywhere, and were JamieB and Matty.
Unfortunately, Wilmslow played like we want to and are capable of playing: positioning the team across the width of the pitch, committing minimal numbers into the breakdown, creating overlap and passing the ball out wide quickly for successful darting runs, many resulting in tries. They were also aggressive in the breakdown and in countering mauls, coming out with turnover ball again and again.
A day to forget? A day to look back on about how to keep one's collective head in the game.
