Winnington Park R.F.C.
Wilmslow
Sun 25 Nov 10:00 - Friendly Full time

A focused and switched on squad won us the game

The warm up was excellent the mood amongst the squad was focussed and ready to go.

We started extremely well and this was a reflection of how well the warm up was executed. An early china call, the ball was moved with ease down the line, superb team work and Harvey Richardson to score the first early try. KO to Wilmslow and as a result of our quick line defence, we immediately put them under pressure and an interception pass taken by Harvey Richardson, pass to Harrison to score try number 2. We received a KO, confidence running high and a darting run by Harrison to break through the line to score number 3. Try number 4 was a good team effort, with at least 5 rucks that we executed well, giving quick ball to Will, the forwards continued to work extremely hard, another strong running back line for Will to score try number 4. We were on fire and playing extremely well.
Wilmslow started the second half very well and kept possession of the ball for good periods, however Park defence stood strong for the majority of the half. Wilmslow had to work really hard for the full half and in the end the pressure took its toll and Park conceeded their first try of the morning. Game 1 finished Park 4 – Wilmslow 1 (try scorers Harvey R – 1, Harrison, 2, Will- 1)

We again started very strongly and were making things difficult with strong runs from the forwards. Alvaro leading the way, the ball was worked from left to right and Millsy managed to score in the far corner, which was an excellent try as he needed to be in a low, strong body position, try number 5 scored. Then from a KO, good rucking and strong running lines, Archie broke through and powered over to score try number 6. Then Tom N leading the way from another Wilmslow KO, pass after pass and finally Tom broke through to score number 7. Then from phase after phase, a ruck was created, Will to scrum half and a good pass to Joe, his signature dummy, and broke through the line to score try number 8. Then to finish the half off, another good run by Alvaro to score try number 9. The half time whistle then blew, a fantastic half of rugby by Park.

The final half of rugby and Wimslow came out fighting which was good to see, they were a different team, aggressive and were playing with passion. This caught WP off-guard and Wilmslow were quick to score their second try through not tackling the player around the legs!! The pressure continued and the game was getting a little feisty, injuries galore started to creep in, but to be fair we kept our shape. Park in possession and camped on Wilmslow try line, looking like we were about to score, then a very strong run and a full length try scored. The team needed to re-group, Alvaro continued to complete many strong runs, but we needed to move the ball into space, and we found ourselves been tackled into touch, but then Alvaro managed to break through this time to score try number 10. Game 2 finished WP 6 – Wilmslow 3 (try scorers Mills – 1, Archie -1, Tom N – 1, Joe -1, Alvaro 2)

Overall score WP 10 v Wilmslow 4.
MoM was Alvaro - he never gave in great attitude and continued strong runs.
