WPRFC v Flint

An under-strength Flint side are assisted by WPRFC to produce a cracking match that all can be proud of.

WPRFC - 1st Half: Alastair, Aidan, James, Lewis M, AJ, Alfie, Owain, Alex, Ben, Cameron, Dan
- 2nd Half: Scott, Callum, Ollie, Lewis G, John, Toby, Archie, Joe, Elliot, Louis

Flint arrived low on numbers so Joe, Elliot, Ollie, Callum & Toby are loaned out for the first half. WP win the toss and start the match promisingly with aggressive running, retaining possession and recycling well which leads to a try for Alex in the corner after good passing. Stout defence forces Flint into touch but WP penalised for handing off in the tackle which is not permitted at this level. A crunching tackle from James forces a turnover from which Alastair scores. Alfie scores two tries after good recycling and open passing. An excellent move from Flint with solid running and good hands deserves a try but the WP defence is resolute and Flint are bundled into touch. Good WP defence forces a turnover from which Dan scores. Alfie gets his third after WP force another turnover and quick hands get the ball to him before Flint can recover to take a 6-0 lead at half-time.

Ben, Dan, Alex, Cameron & Alfie are loaned out to assist the visitors in the second half – which they did with relish! Alfie scores as he waltzes disdainfully through the WP defence with missed tackles aplenty. Alex puts in a crunching tackle to force a turnover from which Flint score. For the home team Elliot charges through, breaking tackles with ease but a foot in touch denies him. WP give away a penalty for coming in at the side from which Alex scores for the visitors. Scott goes on the charge and is held up by Dan. Another excellent tackle from Elliot forces a turnover from which good hands allows Louis to score. The excellent Scott then rucks out Flint to gain possession from which Lewis G scores while Alfie scores for the visitors at the death.

The match was played with a tremendous sporting spirit throughout by both teams while both sets of supporters acquitted themselves well, avoiding the obvious English/Welsh unpleasantness and adhering strictly to the Winnington Park RFC Code of Conduct, as your correspondent has endeavoured to do in writing this humble piece.
