Proud Park prey with passion on passive ‘Port
U9’s back to approaching their best. Solid defence has never been in doubt but attacking flair is encouraging despite outnumbered and tiring opponents
WPRFC “Blues” 12 – 3 Ellesmere Port
WPRFC “Blues”: Cameron, Toby, James, Lewis M, Alastair, Aiden, Alfie, Dan
Alastair scores early on after good recycling and lacklustre tackling from EP. Alfie breaks clear to score after good recycling following a solid tackle from Cameron to gain possession for WP. Alfie nails EP’s largest player as he threatens to break through and WP score after solid lineout allows Lewis M to feed Alfie who waltzes through to score his second. Alastair scores his second after stealing the ball in outrageous manner. WP penalised for offside but make amends by stealing possession allowing Dan to break clear in the middle but is held up. Ball is lost and EP score after missed tackles. Solid rucking again sets up Alfie to score. EP come back but crunching tackles and dogged resistance keep them at bay. Cameron blazes a trail down the wing but is unceremoniously bundled into touch. Lewis M nails EP’s largest player despite the difference in size who spills the ball allowing James to pick up, drive and score. 6-1 at half time. Toby snaps up the ball to score within seconds of the start.Good tackling forces the ball loose to Lewis M, Toby and finally Cameron who blazes a trail down the wing to score. EP again repulsed, ball stolen and spun out to Alfie who charges through the middle and unselfishly passes to Toby to score at full speed – great stuff! Ball won again by WP and Cameron offloads to Aiden on the wing who burns up the line but puts a foot in touch. EP make a hash of the line out allowing WP to win possession and quick hands allows Toby over for his hat-trick. EP again mess up the lineout allowing Dan to pick up the loose ball and crash over in the corner. EP intercept to score but Lewis M takes full advantage of solid WP rucking to pick up the ball and scythe through the defence with genuine flair. EP respond with a score after missed tackles fail to bring down their giant. A solid and occassionally spectacular display.
WPRFC “Whites” 11 – 1 Ellesmere Port
WPRFC “Whites”: Scott, Ollie, Elliott, Alex, Sam, Archie, Joe, Jamie
WP make a mess of the start but hard tackling forces the ball loose which Alex picks up and scores, shedding EP tacklers like dandruff. Elliott scavenges the loose ball and Alex picks up and drives. He’s held up short but reinforcements arrive to push him over the line. EP try to break the line but solid tackling holds them up, Sam makes a mess of his opposite number’s intentions with a solid tackle and the ball is finally spilled allowing WP to pick up and pass out wide. Joe B draws his man perfectly and passes out for Elliot to score. Alex gets his third after loose hands from EP. Ollie on the drive sets up the ball nicely and then reappears to offload expertly to Alex to score. EP steal the ball at lineout and spin it wide only to see their man nailed in spectacular fashion by the predatory Elliot. Scott charges through and sets the ball up allowing Archie to break through. The ball is recycled, spun out to Jamie who beautifully sets up Elliot to score again. EP spill the ball after another crunching tackle. Jamie picks up and feeds Ollie who offloads to Archie to score in front of photographer and proud Dad! EP score after missed tackles. Elliot takes this as a personal insult, receives the ball and skips through the cover with disdain and promptly does it again after ripping the ball clear. Alex and Elliot score a further try apiece after the ball is ripped from the now tired EP players. A resounding victory but EP deserve plaudits for not giving up, behaving impeccably and giving it their best despite flagging noticeably as the game progressed.
