Chester 8 -17 Winnington Park
Third time lucky
A squad of 21 on thursday night was reduced to 17 on Saturday morning. Two players failed to turn up so we had 15 which only included 4 backs.Chester informed us that they had a few underagers playing and so against a team who had already beaten us narrowly twice this season it looked like a day to forget.
Billy Booker went looking for our missing players as we kicked off.Winnington immediately took the game to Chester and it was clear that we were up for the game. The pitch was a mud bath and our backs which included a second row at center,a second row on the wing and a back rower at scrum half began to pass the ball neatly and play some free flowing Rugby with some excelant interpassing between forwards and backs.
A drive from a line out produced the first score with Steve Bebbington crashing over to make it 0 - 5."Our Con" got the conversion to make it 0 - 7.Park continued to dominate and then pressed the self destruct button giving a series of penalties for excessive use of the gob.Chester kicked one to make it 3 - 7 and then against the run of play they scored a try to take an 8- 7 lead on the stroke of half time.
The Half Time instructions were clear.Play a bit of Rugby and we will win.
Park started brightly.A free flowing move resulted in a wonderous try from Dave Allcock to put park back in the lead at 8 - 12.Park kept the pressure on and were playing some good stuff in poor conditions.Bomber Bassnett went over for the third try which resulted from some slick passing along the back line.Park were well on top and went close on several occassions to extend the lead.
An excellant team performance with a special mention to those players who played out of position and performed superbly - big Roy Dexter(2nd Row) on the wing was immense,Karl Patto(2nd Row) showed his sublime skills at centre and Kev Davies(back Row)had an exceptional game at Srum Half
