Great fight back by 2nds maintains unbeaten start to the season.
This week brought local rivals Winterslow II's to a damp, overcast and windy Winterbourne and Hampton Park’s ground in mid June!
Having returned to winning ways with the toss, Capt Matt soon requested the visitors have first use of the damp wicket. This weeks opening bowling attack would be Nick Fiddy and Lee Higgins and they were soon into their stride with Higgins removing both numbers 1 and 3 batsmen by the end of the 6th over leaving W'slow at 15 for 2.
H Fortis with 14 and L Irwin scoring 12 then briefly steadied the ship with a 20 run partnership but once this was broken by Paul Hemming (1-19) wickets started to fall reguarly, 34 for 3 soon became 54 for 9.
Spinner Joe Harvey making his 2nd team debut impressing by taking 3 for 22 from his 10 over spell but it was Lee Higgins who was the star bowler with excellent figures of 8.5 overs 3 maidens 6 wickets for just 10 runs.
A sensible last wicket partnership of 20 between Willis & Rowe in driving rain helped the visitors reach a modest total of 74 before Higgins took his last victim.
Early tea taken to avoid more rain and for the fielders to dry off but unfortunately the wicket was getting a good soaking which was also bad news for the home teams top order batmen.
With both opening bowlers bowling a good line and length and the ball now keeping low wickets soon fell at an alarming rate, both Dunning and Higgins out for ducks and Windows for just 1 inside the first 3 overs with the score at just 6.
Paul Hemming with a controlled 23 whethered the storm to give the home team hope as more wickets fell around him before he himself was bowled by another shooter by Rowe who finished with excellent figures of 5 for 23.
Now at 29 for 7 and with the game seeminly lost up stepped Perminder Tanay and number 10 Rob Mann (who had dropped himself down the order after last weeks duck.) who both decided to bat sensibily and wait to punish the odd bad ball.
This slowly reduce the target to 9 needed before Tanay decided to play a glory shot and was clean bowled for 7.
With only 9 required and number 11 Joe Harvey at the wicket the tension was increasing with every passing ball and run.
Runs were slowly being ticked off the scoreboard but with just 2 now needed to win the ball was spooned up to mid-off by Mann and everyone thought the game was up.
Fortunately Lady luck was on Rob Mann side as the catch was spilled and a scrabbled single was taken to level the scores. It was then left to the faultless batting of Harvey to hit the winning runs and keep W & HP CC unbeaten run going.
