There was a somber moment prior to play when both sides lined up at the wicket for a minutes silence to honour the memory of a St Mary Redcliffe player who lost his life in the recent Malaysian Air Tragedy .
Having won the toss Sir Nick elected to bat on a road of a wicket in very warm conditions , Del and Rob Austen continued where they had left off against YMCA and built a partnership of 150 plus before Rob was caught for a well made 62 , as often happens Del fell on the same score for 77 . What followed was another century stand between veteran Honduran Chicken spotter Dave Kay and Paul Anthony , both making half centuries , Dave falling for 72 (which apparently is his age so he will play on next season , this being his measure to himself that he is still contributing , making his age in an innings) This let in big Gus who added some mighty blows before falling caught on the fence the inning closed on a massive 320 -4 in 45 overs over 7 runs an over .
Post another excellent tea , Jammer and Snartty opened up , good catches from Del and Super Bob plus two cleaned bowled saw SMR reduced to 19-4 , Super Bob and Bomber replaced the openers , but could not make an additional breakthrough, until Bomber bowled Russ Yandell. Sir Nick rang the changes again , back came Jammer and Neddy Misrty's spin was introduced , both taking vital wickets. Back came Super Bob from the far end and cleaned up the tail but try as we did the vital last wicket would not fall .SMR ending on 179-9.
Another good all round performance , credit to SMR who are a pleasure to play ,and an excellent wicket and the valued sopprt of the seconds and firsts who had won and came over to watch our efforts .Onwards to next weeks massive game away at Chipping Sodbury .
