Match Report by Peter Clewes.

The day before the game saw a deluge, but we arrived on Saturday morning to find the pitch and outfield had drained well. Conditions were damp but the weather was forecast to improve and it was no surprise when Winsford decided to bowl first on winning the toss.

Noddy opened with Ray and was fluent right from the word go, getting on the front foot a driving confidently, and the two made a 50 opening stand before Ray went for 18. Joe and Danny went cheaply, and then Sanjiv joined in as Noddy continued, passing his 50. Noddy was finally dismissed for 86 with the score on 159. Dommy struck a flew blows, going for 18, and Sanj continued to make his first 1st team 50, finishing 59no, and with some runs at the end from Mike as well we finished our overs on 212.

Fletch and Matt opened the bowling, Matt bowling with fire. The two shared the early wickets, Matt with 3-28 and Fletch 2-26, including a cracking full quick one to get Ben Crellin. Ronnie came on to give a change of pace, and bowled an excellent spell, apart from a rank long hop which got the big wicket of Baz Crellin. Danny took a wicket in a tight spell at the end and Ronnie fihished thngs off, ending with 4-28.

We should not kid ourselves, this was a weakened Winsford side lacking in confidence, and a far cry from the team we beat by 5 runs in an epic game at the end of last season. You can only beat the opposition put in front of you, and we put in a complete team performance, excellent in batting, bowling and fielding. If this is a sign of things to come then it's going to be a good season.

Player of the Match: several candidates but this week it goes to Noddy for a superb innings, always in control, that showed he has fully made the adjustment forced on him through injuries from being a bowler who can bat to a genuine opening batsman.

Fletchism of the Week: on discussing traffic problems, "At least you don't live where I do with all the cars flying past." - to Mike Muise, who lives in the same street, 80 yards away.
