History - History 1

The club was formed in 1963, however it was not until 1974 that a clubhouse was finally built. Until 1974 the “clubhouse” was located in one of the bars of the White Hart hotel, this led to the club’s nickname of “The Stags” and the antlers on the club logo. The Club have always been successful, in the last 2 years we have won the Eastern Counties Division 4 South League title and were also voted runners up in the Rugby World Magazine’s Team of the Year competition. This tradition of success is one that we are striving to continue.

We are currently running 2 competitive sides; the 1st XV are competing in the Essex league and the Essex Region Merit Table and the 2nd XV compete in the 2nd XV Essex Region Merit Table. We also compete in various National Cup competitions, whichsee players facing well known teams as they progress through each round. As with all sports, excellence is only achieved through practice, training and competition. Competition not only against other sides but also for places within the teams. This is why Witham Rugby Club lives by the motto “Never Enough” and is constantly looking to recruit players of all abilities to maintain our competitive desire and continue our upward progression through the league structure.
