Great game of rugby for the old boys, but honours even over the 2 games.

Witham Stags played the return fixture after having beaten Braintree in their first ever outing. Numbers were a little tight for both sides but what a game it was. The primary difference was the bursting runs of Braintree's flanker, who seemed to have a lot less cobwebs to dust off than the rest. It's always great to see the boys from yester-year trying to regain their youth. John Clark came to watch but decided he couldn't resist. He said he was going to get changed and went into the changing rooms. What a change it was as Lurch emerged a few minutes later..... On the field, Tony Davis was the man with the whistle, dutifully advised by all the on-field experts. Ed Stangroom had a short game as even arthritic knees in the back are painful. A couple of the seconds players were involved too- ironically, when I called for the ball from Kevin Hobden by shouting "fingers" it was me that dropped the damn thing. Kevin was suffering with vertigo after being lifted in the lineout by Lurch and Lee Wilkey. Lee Bywater was controlling things at 9 and Adam Scott-Mason hasn't forgotten how to tackle anything that moves. Aaron Coombs decided to score both the tries for the Stags, I converted 1 of them even though he made no attempt to place either of them under the posts. Plenty of singing and drinking followed.
