Not quite enough
While Witham were always a threat, we just didn't turn our pressure into enough points.
The morning showers made this a muddy affair with both sides struggling to retain possession at times. An early visit to Witham's 22 saw Billericay open the scoring through their forwards. Witham then spent a good spell on the attack but could not turn it into points. Once again, the visitors only needed a short period of pressure to extend their lead before Witham once again camped in the Billericay 22. Daz Chesson and James Harrison were both repelled as Witham searched for their first try. Eventually, Alex Beer
picked up from the back of the scrum and was able to batter his way through. Witha half time score of 5-14, Witham were sure they could turn it around. For much of the second half, the hosts made ground only to lose possession and start again. In the conditions, there had been little clean running for the backs, but when Witham used the line, Sam Holloway
broke the defence. With the ball quickly recycled, Charlie Gibson
had the space to evade his opposite number and reduce the deficit to 10-14. Witham knew how close they were but Billericays defence was resolute and late in the game, they were able to pounce on an error and secure the with with a try. Final score Witham 2nds 10 Billericay 2nds 19.
